-Group 1 : Traditions and linguistics tools

-This program aims at a contrastive analysis of key elements that emerge in language descriptions (linguistic traditions) and focuses on the linguistic tools developed for this purpose: grammars and dictionaries, but also treatises, textbooks, linguistics compilations. This group brings together specialists from different linguistic traditions in order to compare and enrich their mutual research. It also aims at increasing knowledge of particular grammatical and linguistic questions and at producing general research tools.
-Group 2: Medieval linguistic traditions

-The object of this program is to study theories and linguistics ideas of the Middle Age that are evident whether in specialized subjects like grammar, logic, rhetoric, lexicography, poetics, or in theological, juridical or scientific fields. We need to understand the links that exist between didactic and theoretical grammar and study the connections between theories and their objects. Theories are studied by taking into account the general setting of their production, and the historical and institutional context of their creation. Links with medievalists from other fields, historians, philosophers, theologians, philologists and literary scholars allow the widening of our perspectives. A major part of our activities is devoted to text editing.
-Group 3 : Modern and contemporary language sciences

-Research conducted in collaboration with linguists, logicians, and philosophers concerns  linguistic theories developed from the end of the 19th century to the present. Major questions that emerged in this period are studied : 1) the defence of the idea that linguistic systems are independent (structuralism) ; 2) the psychologisation of linguistic facts ; 3) logical formalization ; 4) automatization techniques ; 5) formal grammars ; 6) disciplinarisation processes.

-DHTL and CTLF (resp. Bernard Colombat et Aimée Lahaussois)
-This dictionary presents the originality of concerning linguistic terms from different languages and showing the historical evolution of their meaning and uses. As a paper edition was impossible, an online edition is planned, based on the Wikipedia model. Some of the articles that have already been prepared are online for a restrictive, experimental use. The dictionary will be constantly updated. Use of the texts from “Corpus des textes linguistiques fondamentaux” will facilitate the writing of articles and guarantee the depth of their content.
-Extended grammars
-This program aims at studying, in its globality, the phenomenon that we can call, following Sylvain Auroux (“La revolution technologique de la grammatrisation”, 1994, p.82-85), “extended grammars”, that is to say grammatical description of languages with the help of descriptive tools initially created for another language. Grammatization of an important number of the world’s languages from 3 descriptive models (Latin grammar, Arab grammar, Sanskrit grammar), from the historical period to the present, puts us at the heart of descriptive linguistics, in other words at the heart of the empirical foundations of linguistics. This project also gives us the opportunity to explore, in a very concrete way, the general adaptation of a descriptive model : what does this tell us about the activity of language description ? This program is one of the activities (EM1c) of the 7th axis of the Labex EFL.
